Candidate FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what candidates ask us most — English requirements, visas, costs, and what happens after you sign up.

Do I need to speak English to apply?

Requirements vary by visa and role, but most placements need at least a functional/conversational level (commonly around IELTS 4.5–5.0 or equivalent). Some pathways — like our Global Traineeship Program — include workplace-based English study as part of the placement, so you can build toward the level you need while you’re already working.

Do I need to pay anything to use Australian Career Pathways?

Employers do not pay us a placement fee. There is a cost for our recruitment and migration support service on the candidate side — we’ll walk you through exactly what’s included and what it costs once you register, so there are no surprises.

What visa types do you help with?

We work with the subclass 482 (Skills in Demand), 186 and 494 employer-sponsored visas. If you’re already in Australia on a 462, 417 or 485 visa, our Global Traineeship Program is a structured pathway toward 482 sponsorship.

Do I need a job offer before I apply, or will you find one for me?

For most direct placements, we match you with an employer who is already approved and ready to sponsor before your application goes in. For the Global Traineeship Program, you start paid work straight away and build toward 482 sponsorship over the 12-month placement.

Can my spouse or family come with me?

In many cases, yes. Let us know during your application and we’ll factor this into your visa planning and job matching from the start.

What if I don’t have a formal qualification in my trade?

Some pathways include Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which assesses your hands-on work experience against the formal qualification — useful if you’ve worked the trade for years without paper certification.

How long does the whole process take?

It depends on the visa type, the employer, and your individual circumstances. Once your application is underway, your case manager will give you a realistic timeline for your specific situation.

What happens after I arrive in Australia?

We support your soft landing — help with accommodation, orientation, and settling into your first week on the job — so you’re not figuring it all out alone.

What if the employer changes their mind or the job falls through?

If a placement doesn’t go ahead, we work with you to find an alternative opportunity rather than leaving you to start over on your own.

Which industries and trades do you recruit for?

Aged Care, Bakery, Bricklaying, Carpentry, Cookery, Diesel Mechanics, Hairdressing, Meat Processing (Boning, Slaughtering, Slicing) and Tiling, plus our Global Traineeship tracks in Tiling and Retail Butchery. New categories are added as employer demand grows.
